What is Groq.com?
Groq’s AI tool is a highly optimized hardware and software solution designed for accelerating AI and machine learning workloads, particularly focusing on large language models (LLMs) like Meta’s LLaMA. Their technology revolves around the GroqChip, part of the Language Processing Unit (LPU) system, which is specifically built to handle the sequential and compute-intensive nature of generative AI language processing tasks. This approach aims to overcome the latency and scalability issues inherent in traditional GPU-based systems. By offering ultra-low latency and high-speed processing capabilities, Groq enables more natural and fluid AI-powered interactions and applications.
The company claims its architecture can deliver unparalleled performance efficiency, boasting up to 300 tokens per second per user, setting new benchmarks for LLM speed and accuracy. Groq’s technology represents a significant advancement in the field of AI acceleration, aiming to provide a cost-effective and high-performance alternative to the current market offerings.
So in short, this AI Tool is very, very fast.
Signing up and starting with Groq.com
Starting out with Groq.com is pretty easy and straightforward. Just go to its website: Groq.com and you can use the query box at the top of the page to start typing your prompts.
You may need to sign up with an email-address, but you don’t have to use a password or pay a subscription fee. As of yet.
The power of the AI Prompt
Like its main competitors the power of Groq.com is dependent on the information you, the user, can give it. In other words, you need to give it concise and clear commands (or prompts) in order to get the best results.
For instance, if you want to create a marketing strategy for your company, you need to give the AI tool at least some idea of what you sell, to whom, on which channels etc. Instead of just typing in:
Give me a marketing strategy
Like here, and then you will only get a generic answer on marketing.
Marketing Strategy Example
So, you want to give as much information as possible. To get a workable marketing strategy you need to make a short list of the following topics:
- A short description of your company
- Yourself
- Where your company is based
- What kind of service or product you sell
- Who’s your target audience
- What channels are you planning on using (Website, face to face sales or Social Media)
- And anything else you can think of that is important.
Let’s take an easy example. I want to start a new webshop selling craft beers in the US and canada. Your audience would be mainly men between age 25 tot 55. You want use both free Social Media and have a monthly budget of $1000,- to use on Google Ads and Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram).
So you type in the following into Groq.com:
I am the owner of a new webshop for craftbeers. I want to sell in the US and Canada. My target audience will be mainly men, aged 25 to 55. I would describe both myself as well as my company as friendly, humorous and open minded. For my marketing I’m planning to use SEO on my new website, free social media such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok. And paid advertising with a monthly budget of $1000,- that I want to use on Google Ads and Meta ads. Can you generate a viable marketing strategy with a timeline for this year?
And you will get a more detailed yearly strategy, like here. What surprised on the one hand is how fast the results are being generated, compared to ChatGPT and Gemini (formerly known as Bard).
But on the other hand, the result is still somewhat generic.
On the next test, doing some brand research!
Brand Research with Groq.com
Ok, let’s test how good Groq.com is at Brand Research. (for research with ChatGPT click here and for research with Gemini, click here).
First I want to research my Brand Name, so I type in:
I want to research the new name of this new craftbeer webshop. Can you generate 10 names?
And get these results, again, lightning fast:
I like the name BrewBuddies. Next step is ideas for a slogan, so I type in:
I like the name [BrewBuddies]. Can you generate 10 possible slogans?
And voila: 10 great slogans in a jiffy.
Now, I also want to get to know the competition, so I type in:
what are the top 10 competitors for BrewBuddies in the US? Include company url
And get a nifty list:
Keyword Research with Groq.com
Now, a extensive keyword strategy is not needed at this point, but I do want to know what Groq can do for me in this regard. Let’s use the BrewBuddies website idea again.
I type in:
Can you generate a list of keyword ideas for [BrewBuddies]? Use keywords with a high volume and low competition
And these are the results:
Again, Groq generates these at a breakneck speed. Nice.
Writing Content for a Homepage
How good is Groq at content writing? A small test would be to generate a text for our BrewBuddies main page, the Homepage.
So I type in the following prompt:
I want to build the homepage for BrewBuddies. Using our overall branding, slogan and target audience, can you write a converting and informative text for the homepage?
And this is the result, nicely done:
Writing a sales email with Groq.com
Our final test for the moment is getting Groq.com to write a sales email to our potential customers.
We’ll be using the BrewBuddies example again, because at this moment Groq has a far better idea who we are, what we sell and to whom. So the results, in theory, should be better if we ask the AI tool to write an email from scratch.
Let’s use this prompt:
I want to write an email to potential customers who’ve just subscribed to our newsletter. I want to point them to our Black Friday offers. Can you generate an email for that?
Again, a great and fast result! And Groq even included CTA’s (Call To Actions) in my email, even though I didn’t ask it to do that.
And final small test, let’s ask it to rewrite the email, but in another tone of voice. Maybe in the tone of voice of a famous comedian?
Can you rewrite this email in the tone of voice of comedian Bill Burr?
And this is the hilarious result:
Comparing Groq.Com with ChatGPT and Gemini
Comparing Groq’s AI technology with Google’s Bard (Gemini) and ChatGPT requires a focus on different aspects, as Groq specializes in hardware acceleration for AI applications, while Bard and ChatGPT are AI models developed for natural language processing and generation. Here’s a pros and cons list to highlight their differences:

In summary, Groq offers a hardware solution aimed at improving the efficiency and performance of AI model inferences, presenting an innovative approach to AI acceleration. In contrast, Gemini and ChatGPT are software-based AI models focused on natural language understanding and generation, each with its strengths and limitations influenced by their development, deployment environments, and underlying technologies.
What I like about Groq is that it’s lightning fast. You will get your results in a jiffy. But overall. ChatGPT and Gemini at the moment are the superior AI Tools. You can use these mere extensively for your research, you can generate images. And most importantly, your prompts and results will remain visible.
With Groq, when you log out and in again your results are lost.
Hopefully, Groq.com will address these issues in future, because then it will become a powerhouse of an AI Tool.
